He easily made his way up the steep hill, knowing that his new mare was somewhere behind him. His legs easily took to the steep land. As a purebred mustang, he had the advantage that all of his breed carried on tough ground, making them ideal for traveling. His ears were still perked high as he checked his homeland for signs of other life. It would just be like a dark stallion to steal another's land while they were away. Luckily for him, no new scents were detected, so he continued as normal up the hill.
At the top, he stood and looked over his land. It was rock filled as ever, but he knew his way to the foot of the mountain. Everything was cast in shadow, and Convoluted gratefully moved into it, enjoying the feel of concealment. His entire body was freezing cold, but he waited none-the-less for Aurora to join him.

Ghostly figure fell behind the darkened steed. She had asked herself questions the short route here until she finally perked up her harks and listened around. Was this it? Rocks. Not that bad for a dark land. She made a halt and shifted weight to one side, staying a little behind the leader. She looked over the land, her gaze seeing all the seperate features of the land. Shadows everywhere. It was then when she wondered if they'd be alone here. Perhaps he had a queen already and it was all a trick or torchure. Taking a step back from the thought she snorted slightly before looking to Convoluted. Do any others reside here? She questions, gaze returning back to the shadows and boulders.

None but you he replied evenly, still looking about for any signs of another stallion in his land. Delicately, he reared to the sky and stayed like that, checking from better height. Still nothing. Pleased, he came down and shivered violently. Come he said, trotting away from the light. He had to show her the cave, and then he must rest from the cold. Dawn light was filtering onto the land, which still remained darker than others. Convoluted glanced at the sky, reveling at how beautiful it looked. The sun had painted it with bright yellows, darker oranges, ruby reds. Soon it would turn blue, and by then the stallion wanted to be in his cave.
He walked through a path of rocks, not really caring where his feet went in the soft mud. The cold showed no signs of lifting its hold over him, so he quietly picked up his pace to a canter that carried him easily over the terrain. In about ten minutes, he came to the foot of the mountain that cast the shadow over his land. Padding along beside it, he soon reached the opening in the rock. It was only then that he looked over his shoulder to see if Aurora had kept up with his smooth strides.
((Tis okay. This one's not my best, either.))

Mare traced the path that he took, avoiding the rocks and boulders unlike him. She picked up a graceful trot with an extended leggings. She watched where she went instead of gazing at her new surroundings. It was dark anyways, so pretty hard to really see anything from a distance. Though the dawn began to arise, her favorite time of day. As he began to lope she did the same, only to slow down again to a trot. Her legs were much longer than his so their speed evened out perfectly.
It seemed like it took forever until the steed finally halted. She stopped a ways behind him, looking at opening in the large boulder. She kauked her head a little at him, wondering what was so spectacular about a cave like this. It was too ordinary. She shifted forward slightly but halted again, harks perked still at what he seemed to be so proud of.

Welcome home he neighed proudly before finally walking inside. The dawn light filtered through the holes in the ceiling, lighting up the cave. Moss decorated the sides, making the cave look cosy and welcoming. He trotted deeper within, to where the darkness was complete. The only light came from the cavern before him. As he trotted through his cave, he passed a pool of water. The pool shone brilliantly, as a circle of light fell directly onto it. Convoluted didn't stop until he reached the back . There, he circled and folded up on the ground for sleep. Sleep wherever you like he called to Aurora.

She gave a small snort as he welcomed her to 'home.' For some reason she felt something was missing. A family. One that she could love. She couldn't possibly find it here. But she remembered how he promised that she was to wander wherever she pleased. And when she was ready to leave her temporary home, she would do so, no questions asked. She followed him into the darkness, not going as far as he was. She halted near the opening of the cave, figuring he was to go back there because, well, he was darker than she. He probably preferred the dark more than she did. The dark never hid her anyways, and he knew that.
She backed a few steps away from the darkness and nickered as he offered for her to sleep wherever she pleased. Nipping at a few weeds first, she turned in a small circle, putting her nose down to the ground before laying down in the moist dirt, covering her ghostly coat with crumbles of mud and dirt. She lay on her side for a while, thinking about what tomorrow held. Perhaps he'd leave and come home with another mare, anoint her queen and she'd be beat up like the stories she had heard from her past friends. Giving a deep sigh he eyelids began to close, though you wouldn't know from the darkness if her eyes were close or not. It all looked the same. Shifting a little she quickly fell into a deep slumber. Resting to have energy for the morning just moments ahead of her.
