I See Aurora
Lights Feathered Hooves pounded down the flower-covered landscape. Behind them was a trail of teal, red, yellow, and blue pedals, following her to wherever they were going. A pink-muzzled figure suddenly stopped, harks perched nicely ontop her dial. Nares flared inwards and out, taking in the deep scents of flowers, but no others.
The large percheron cross picked up a little trot, dirtying her underbelly. Finally, a small creek-bed flowed before her. Looking into the reflection, she snorted and gave a rear at full height, having to catch herself with her hind hooves to not fall backwards. Finally landing back to earth, her ears perched again, this time listening for any others.[/blockquote] Status: Finished Reply: Open Word Count: 118

Xx try it you light Xx you'll never be able to fight Xx once you meet me, you'll take flight
His mustang form, nice and stocky, moved with no sound over the terrain. His eyes and ears were perked looking for.... ahh..... toys. Females. Playthings. Whatever he wanted to describe the opposite gender as. He strode with nothing but pride and arrogance. Murderer of his sister, murderer of his parents, he had no reason to fear those others of the other alliance. He was a dark, and proud of it too. It was nighttime, so no colors shone off his ragged coat. That was why he saw the mare first, moving silently towards her. She seemed to be listening for other horses. Perfect. An alert mare. Time to play his own game.
Remaining in the shadows, he inched the closest he could to her. The shadows masked him clearly. It was impossible to see the stallion. Exactly what he wanted. Time to have some fun. For a few minutes, he studied the other mare. His eyes were the color of night, but this mare stood out. It was her coat, impossible to blend in with the night. At last, Convoluted spoke his magic. Prove yourself, mare. It was a confusing introduction, and he remained perfectly still as he said it. This would be fun, interesting to see what this equine said.

Ghostly figure had recognized the unfamiliar scent as one hark pushed backwards in alert behind her while the other did its duty perched up. She prepared herself for a startle, figuring it could just be a pathetic dark mule out to scare her. But she wasn't stupid and she'd prove her own alliance, even if the other would disagree. She felt the breath of the other one close to her hindquarters. Shifting her weight away she spun around, looking at the shadowy figure whom she couldn't necessarily make out in darkness like this. Her harks perched perfectly on her drafted dial as she listened to the brute.
Staying silent for a few moments she thought about what he had said to her. Giving a small snort she towered over the figure, but even she knew that height didn't mean anything in this game. It was all dominance. She didn't run from him. She had learned from her previous years to never run from fears, even if it meant getting hurt. She'd stand for her beliefs, and no one else's. Prove myself worthy to you? Ha. She snorted and shook her crown. Brute. Her tone wasn't harsh nor soft and startled. It was a normal relaxed voice. It was easy for her to act natural around these types. He was no different.

Xx looks like a feisty one Xx oh well, wait till he's done Xx you'll never want to me again, hun
Brute, and proud of it. Just like you're a damsel. A damsel in distress might I add. The figure remained still, not revealing himself to the mare just yet. A talk back light? Might as well crown herself a neutral. He inhaled her scent, taking in how pure it was. Ragged coat flickered slightly to disturb a fly that had dared land. Eyes blended perfectly into the darkness, away from the glow of the moon, but now he tilted his head to the side. The movement worked perfectly. Moonlight caught the gleam of his eyes, and it gave the illusion of something just appearing slowly from a seemingly black canvas. It was eerie, yet Convoluted could care less what the mare thought.
Just having a walk through the fields now, eh? Get a move on, mare. It was another jumbled response, perhaps to see her response more. Arrogance flashed in his eyes still more. Yep, it was dominance, and this mare seemed to be full of it. A good thing. He liked the interesting ones more. It would be fun to meet and interact. In Convoluted's mind, he was a horse, darker, and all others didn't matter. Facts of life, in his opinion.

Draft mare shifted weight, showing she wasn't scared and actually rather bored, though that didn't make an excuse to take advantage of her. Afterall, he didn't scare her. Though she was young, she was mature, and knew how to take care of things that didn't necessarily go the way she wanted it to. I'm fine where I'm at thank you. She said, shifting her weight to the other side so her hind hoof was rested. She looked the stranger in the eye. He surely was handsome, just by seeing the pitiful orbs of the steed. Yet not enough to convince this mare to go with him. She wasn't like that. Instead, she'd keep him guessing, something she had learned a while back ago. He was no different than any of those other worthless stags.

Xx handsome, check Xx interesting, check Xx what more could you want?
No surprise flickered in his orbs, only a strange look of happiness. He was young, yes, and arrogant, but he had yet to really grow dark. Probably never would, if he wasn't exposed more to the acts of darkness. The happiness was gone almost as soon as it appeared. He couldn't show any sign of joy; wasn't he a dark? Back to business, enough of this thought. Still, he couldn't help but feel happy. So young, he felt vulnerable without a herd to live with. Or a herd to protect. It felt like he had no use in the world. Convoluted hated that thought.
He didn't visibly shrug, but inside his mind he did. Suit yourself. Enough of this ever-so-obvious play. You're some horse I don't know, but I'm Convoluted. Someone I know well. Amusement dripped in his voice. He could care less about being strictly dark. A rebel, that was what he was. Not caring less about sticking to his alliance. Convoluted hoped the mare wouldn't think him of the most vulgar. At least he was different from that rough stallion who owned Forbidden Darkness....

Ghostly figure stood erect, looking at the shadowing steed, trying to make out what exactly he looked like, but she hid what she was trying to look for and focused on what was happening already. He seemed different from other darks. Most would snap at her at first sight, but he seemed to be more... mysterious. She grinned a little at his amusement, not finding it very funny at all, more like... stupid. But she hid her inner thoughts and snorted. Her pink nose was something different from others. Her black orbs hid all emotions. Though she was frightened at first, he seemed to calm her. Did he want that to happen? Was it all a trick?
Finally she turned back to reality, remembering his little amusement tone he had spoken in. Aurora. She introduced herself. Why not? There was no one who would care for her just yet, considering she was alone and knew no one around these parts. She had just previously moved here away from her father's herd on her own. But her plan wasn't to go with a stubborn dark and be a pet. It was to be a loving member of a herd and have a child, a light one of course. She wanted to live in a peaceful land with someone she could actually love instead of just lay around and use her. Is that what he was here for?

Aurora. I know what that means. Do you know what Convoluted means? A slight, amused chuckle. Twisted. Not that I liked the name, I'd much prefer something shorter. He talked about his name like it was a weather forecast, not really caring what the mare thought of its meaning. Again, being the rebel. Convoluted looked closer at the mare, studying her looks. She wss a spunky light, something he liked. Spunk. Difference. What are my intentions with her? She's a nice mare, and I only really take the spunky ones. But do I intend to use her? No, remember your honor.
The stallion was developing a kind of code of honor. None should be forced to join his herd. None should be force bred. He knew what could happen otherwise. If a colt was borne, challenge him he would if he took after his mother. Even a filly would leave and spread the word. What honor was in that? It seemed the more he talked to a mare, the more gentle he became. At first sight he would be dark as heck, but then he'd soften up. He didn't consider it a weakness of his, but that was that.
A drop in the temperature jerked him back to the present. It was getting colder as the real night set in. Convoluted refused to shudder, lest he gave away his position. Besides, his ragged coat could stand it. He hoped. Either way, time to see what this mare's decision would be. Without warning, he slowly stepped out of the shadows into the moonlit world. The light showed his coat to be gleaming, but ragged. His mane and tail were long and tangled, with a large clump resting over one eye. He tossed his head, annoyed, and it sent the strand of hair out of his way.
So, Aurora. As you may have realized, the temperature is dropping. I'd much rather get back to my home soon. As you are a newcomer to these parts, I welcome you and hope you find your place. But in the meantime, would you like to come with me? I own Shadow Peak. Not the darkest you'll find, but it'll suffice. That's it. He'd extended his invitation. It was all up to the mare now. If she said no, let the spirits help her if she came across a less honor-bound stallion. Of course, it wouldn't be his fault. His eyes regarded her, a keen spark of interest flickering in them.

A typical roll of the eyes was made as he seemed to show off his name. Was it something he was proud of? A name meant nothing. Aurora didn't fit her personality at all, for they were lights that made everyone happy. Instead, she was named because of her fur color. Nothing special. Her personality had nothing to do with it. She wondered the past of this so called 'Convoluted' steed. Twisted? She thought to herself. No she hadn't known what the name had meant until now, and it put questions in her mind if it fit him like it didn't fit hers.
She shivered at the sudden chill in the night wind. As he stepped from the shadows to the moonlight, she couldn't help but grin. He was handsome. A purebred mustang just by the looks. Untamed. Though why was he to show himself to her? The darks she had previously known were nothing but jerks, pushing her around, but this one was different. He seemed to actually care for her. Why was this? A trick. She thought to herself as reality struck her quickly after his offer.
No. She wanted to scream. Did he think she was stupid? Surely not. But it ocurred to her that he was nicer than other darkened brutes. And if another dark allianced one came would hurt her, she'd regret going with him. Take what you get right? A small step backwards balanced her footing out as she couldn't stop looking at the handsome brute mustang. The moment of silence seemed to last for a long time. Until finally she had made her decision. Depends. May I wander as I please? He tone was questionable. Her answer could possibly be yes, but it only depended on the steed's response to her one question. If she wanted to leave she'd do so. But she would refuse to turn to the dark side. Torcher or all you wanted but she believed in what she was.

The stallion shivered as more cold bit into him. Looked like his ragged coat couldn't handle it. How he longed for his cave back at Shadow Peak. First, though, he must finish the deal with this mare. Convoluted had taken a fancy to her. Yes, she was light, but what did it matter? All he could care about was having some mares so he could have a family. It didn't matter the alliance, as long as they respected him and they weren't unbearable. So why am I the dark? Is it because I cannot have peace? Is it because of my childhood? Is it because I cannot have a light twist to my life?
His ears perked at her question, and amusement dripped into his tone once more. Wander as you please? Of course you may, long as you stay out of the other stallions' terras. I know you can take care of yourself against other darks, though. You just proved yourself in that aspect. He noted that she may wonder why he was not as dark, He knew what the other darks would be like. Sneaky and tricking mares into their herds. He wasn't like that. The lighter aspects of his parents shone clearly in him, and he couldn't turn away.
Perhaps he should just answer her unspoken question. You may wonder why I am like this, why I seem to be different from other darks. The answer is honor. Why just use a mare? If she hated the terra, when she birthed my foal, what guarantee would there be if it was to be dark? If it took after the mother, it would either leave the herd or challenge my lead position. But that is not the only reason. I just don't like the idea. He did not go into detail. Why confide completely in someone you barely knew?
He looked expectantly at the mare. Surely now she would give him the answer? The cold was soaking into him, choking him, consuming him. He must get back as soon as possible. Why oh why couldn't this mare just hurry up? He stamped a foot impatiently, and this time shivered slightly.

The coldness of the night didn't seem to bother the tall draft cross. She in fact liked the cold chill better than the heat. So she listened to the steed's response easily. Is that all? All he had to offer was a place to stay. Before she began to speak in response he began his low tone once more. Harks perched perfectly atop her dial as she shifted weight once more, listening to what he had to say to her about his land.
Once finished, Aurora left the sound of his voice to a whisper in the wind. All you could hear was the chill that had gone through them both, skin and bones. It was then when she realized what she had gotten herself into. A dark steed? Asking for her to join him in a land? What would become of it? A foal? Is that all he wanted? Pleasure? Questions like this continued to ponder through her metalled brain when she had finally made the decision.
Taking a step towards the ragged coated brute, she gave a fake grin. Convoluted. I accept your offer. She said, a little hesitant at first. But life needed adventures. What the heck? Why not have a little fun every once in a while. Though he called himself a dark, she'd prefer him more of a neutral, leading towards the light side. She wouldn't say that out loud, wondering if he had wanted that or not. But it was time now to get out of the chill in the air and see her temporary home.

A small sign of joy appeared in his eyes. Okay, then. Let's get going. He slowly shook out each leg, hoping they hadn't frozen over in the time spent talking to the mare. His ears alert for any signs of other horses, he trotted in circles, hoping to warm up. Each stride landed with a soft plop on the dirt ground, as frost was settling onto it and being melted by his body heat. At long last, he stood still and looked over to his mare.
Would she like the land? Would everything work out for her when he got more herd members? How would these other horses treat her? Had he jeopardized his title as a dark stallion by taking in a light? What would the foal be like? Worries sent even colder chills through his body, but he soon ignored them and focused back on Aurora. He must take her home and show her the land, then wander in search of more mares. How would this work out? Never matter, right now he had a job to do.
He looked Aurora in the eye. She'd probably only stay with him for a little bit, as she was light, and then leave, probably taking the foal with her. Where would she go, anyway? He had no idea of the layout of the light lands. We might as well get moving. Shadow Peak is pretty rock strewn and hard to live in, if you don't know where the food and water is. Follow me, and I will show you my home. Convoluted turned from her and walked south, crossing a cold creek and gradually speeding up to a trot as he travelled to his terra.
